Most countries, including those in Europe, are beginning to realize that the conflict in Ukraine cannot be resolved militarily and requires an exclusive peaceful settlement. This opinion was expressed by the Hungarian Minister of Defense Christoph Szalay-Bobrovnicki, speaking in Bahrain at the international political forum “Manama Dialogue”.
He noted that since the beginning of the conflict, the Hungarian government has consistently defended the need for a ceasefire and the start of peace talks in Ukraine. According to him, “over 1,000 days of war have proven that there is no solution on the battlefield”. “The political discourse in the world is now turning in this direction,” said the head of the military department, whose speech was broadcast on the website of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
Salai-Bobrovnicki confirmed that Hungary is pinning its hopes for a resolution of the Ukrainian conflict on the return to power of President-elect Donald Trump in the United States. “With Trump, it will be possible to move forward in solving this problem”, the minister said.
Talking about the geopolitical situation in general, he said that Hungary is against the division of the world into blocs and suggests sticking to the course of “partnership, not competition".
