Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited the US on invited President-elect Donald Trump and met with him at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The meeting was also attended by entrepreneur Elon Musk, who may join the new US administration, Mike Waltz, announced by Trump as his national security adviser, and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó.
„A day at Mar-a-Lago with Donald Trump and Elon Musk”, wrote the head of the Hungarian government on his Facebook page. In turn, Szijjarto said that “the conversation was long”.
The posts were accompanied by several photos from a meeting at Trump's Florida mansion, which Musk attended with his young son. One of the photos has the inscription: “America. The future has arrived."
This year, Orbán and Trump are meeting at Mar-a-Lago for the third time. The Hungarian prime minister openly supported the Republican candidate during the US election campaign and made no secret of his hope for his return to the White House. Immediately after the presidential election, Orbán was one of the first among world leaders to congratulate Trump on his victory and said it would be good for all countries.
Hungary is pinning hopes on his presidency to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which Trump has promised to tackle after taking office on January 20. Orbán argued that if Trump had remained at the head of the US for a second term, he would have prevented the Ukrainian crisis. In addition, Budapest is counting on the normalization of relations with Washington, which have deteriorated significantly under the administration of Democrat Joe Biden.
