A reshuffle in the Turkish cabinet is possible before the end of February, but it will not affect five key ministers, the Türkiye newspaper reported, citing sources in the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to the publication, five or six ministers may lose their posts by a decision of the president. Meanwhile, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, and Environment and Urban Development Minister Murat Kurum will retain their positions.
The changes made as part of the AKP reforms following the March 2024 local elections, which the opposition won, will affect both the party's leadership and the municipalities it represents. The personnel renewal is expected to be completed before the AKP congress, which is scheduled for late February, the newspaper noted.
Turkey's current cabinet was formed in June 2023 following the presidential and parliamentary elections held in May of that year.
