The President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen has fallen ill with pneumonia and will not be performing her duties in the first two weeks of January, the representative of the EC Stefan de Keersmacker told the PAP agency.
Keersmacker explained that von der Leyen has been diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Therefore, the EC meeting scheduled for January 9 and 10 in Gdansk will be held later.
Von der Leyen will also not appear on January 3 in Warsaw at the ceremony marking the start of the Polish EU presidency.
