Kazakhstani rescuers have rescued 10 people injured after a mass car collision on the Astana-Petropavlovsk highway in the Akmola region of the republic, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reported.
"During the rescue operations, 71 people were evacuated, 8 of whom were children. They were taken to heating centers and provided with hot food. Another 11 people were rescued, 10 of them were hospitalized in the Makinsk regional hospital,“ the report said.
More than 150 people and 68 pieces of equipment participated in the rescue operations.
Earlier, the press service of the national highway management operator "Kazavtozhol" reported that due to snowstorms and poor visibility on the Astana-Petropavlovsk section of the republican highway, traffic restrictions were introduced for all types of vehicles. After improving weather conditions and clearing the road, movement was organized towards the city of Shchuchinsk with an escort of police officers and special equipment of Kazavtozhol.
However, due to failure to observe speed and distance from drivers, a collision of 95 cars occurred. Now these cars, which are in working order, could continue their journey, accompanied by police patrol cars.
