A prisoner at the central prison of the municipality of Arles in southern France took hostages, the newspaper La Provence reported.
According to the publication, three medical workers and one guard at the prison were involved.
It is noted that the attacker was armed with a knife.
The prison in Arles was built in the 1990s. It is designed for 159 prisoners. Currently, 137 people are serving their sentences.
