The commander of the Navy of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC, the elite units of the armed forces) Alireza Tansiri announced an underground base for deploying warships and boats. A video clip about it was published by the Iranian state television and radio company.
The base is located on the Persian Gulf coast deep underground and has a complex system of extensive tunnels. The depth at which the base is located reaches 500 m. Tansiri called the structure “a well-protected underground city of ships“.
According to him, the base has several exits to the Persian Gulf, which allow for the rapid launch of ships. “The number of ships stationed here underground is only a small part of our IRGC fleet, and now these forces have the ability to confront threats coming from beyond the Persian Gulf,“ said Corps Chief Hossein Salami.
