Yesterday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale shook Taiwan. This was confirmed by the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The tremor occurred at 12:17 local time, with its epicenter located 23 km from Yujing, and the depth - only 7 km, which made it particularly noticeable for residents, reports Focus.
Local authorities reported three people who were briefly buried in a collapsed house, as well as two people stuck in elevators as a result of the tremor, reports AFP.
Despite the relatively limited damage, the situation is a reminder of the region's vulnerability to seismic activity. Taiwan is frequently subject to earthquakes due to its location in the seismically active zone called the Pacific Ring of Fire.
