US President Donald Trump has ordered the publication of thousands of classified government documents on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, which even decades later fuels conspiracy theories, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

A decree signed by the president last night sets the task of declassifying the remaining federal documents related to the assassinations of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said that “everything will be revealed“.

Trump had promised during his reelection campaign to release the last batches of still-classified documents surrounding President Kennedy's assassination in Dallas. He made a similar promise during his first term, but ultimately backed down in the face of calls from the CIA and FBI for some documents to remain secret.

Trump has nominated Kennedy's nephew, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to be health secretary in his new administration. Kennedy Jr., whose father, Robert F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968 while running for president, said he was not convinced that a lone gunman was solely responsible for the 1963 assassination of his uncle, President Kennedy.

The order orders the director of national intelligence and the attorney general to develop a plan within 15 days to declassify the remaining files on John F. Kennedy and within 45 days for the other two cases.

Trump handed the pen used to sign the order to an aide and ordered it to be delivered to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Only a few thousand of the millions of government documents related to President Kennedy's assassination have yet to be fully declassified. And while many who have studied what has been published so far say the public should not expect any shocking revelations, there is still a strong interest in the details surrounding the murder and the events surrounding it.

In addition, Trump announced that he would pardon anti-abortion activists convicted of blocking the entrances to abortion clinics, describing signing the order as a “great honor”. Among the pardoned people were those who participated in the invasion and blockade of a clinic in Washington in October 2020.
