The Ukrainian office of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been ordered to suspend all its projects and spending on them, the publication “Obshchestvenoe“ reported, citing a USAID official in Kiev.
“The USAID office in Ukraine has been ordered to suspend all projects and spending on them following an order from the US State Department to suspend aid programs for other countries for 90 days,“ the publication writes.
It is noted that Ukrainian organizations funded by USAID are receiving letters about the need to suspend their activities, and USAID employees themselves have no instructions on how the directive to suspend projects will be implemented and whether there will be exceptions.
It was previously reported that the US State Department is imposed an immediate and sweeping freeze on foreign aid to nearly all countries, including Ukraine. Under the order of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, most ongoing programs will be frozen for 90 days.
