According to local media, at least 47 people are trapped after a glacier burst in the Indian Himalayas, Sky News reports, Fokus reports.
The incident occurred near a highway in the Chamoli region of Uttarakhand state, where workers were engaged in construction work to build a road.
Local police reported that at least 57 workers were initially trapped in the incident. "Of these, 10 workers have been rescued and sent to an army camp near Mana in a critical condition," senior police officer Nilesh Anand Bharne told news agency ANI.
Rescue teams are finding it difficult to reach the site of the incident due to heavy snowfall, another senior police official said. The area is about 5 km from the popular Hindu temple of Badrinath, which attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every year.
