A magnitude 5.5 earthquake was registered in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, Mexican authorities and the US Geological Survey reported, News.bg reports.
The earthquake occurred near the city of San Miguel Achiutla at a depth of 64 km, the US Geological Survey specified.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on the X platform that there was no evidence of damage. The governor of Oaxaca reported that emergency protocols have been activated.
The earthquake triggered the seismic alarm in Mexico City, which temporarily brought residents of the capital to the streets.
