A peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia will take time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during a visit to Jamaica, world agencies reported, quoted by BTA. He said the US will study Russia's demands regarding a ceasefire with Ukraine in the Black Sea.
"Achieving a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia will not be easy. It will take time, but at least we are on this path and talking about these things," Rubio said at a news conference in Kingston.
The United States reached separate agreements yesterday with Ukraine and Russia to stop attacks at sea and on energy infrastructure, with Washington agreeing to push for the lifting of some sanctions against Moscow.
Shortly after the White House announced the news yesterday, the Kremlin said the Black Sea deal would not go into effect until the connection between some Russian banks and the international financial system was restored, Reuters recalls.
At the same news conference in Kingston, Rubio acknowledged that a big mistake had been made when an American journalist was included in a confidential discussion of senior American officials during which plans to strike the Houthis in Yemen were discussed.
“Obviously someone made a mistake - a big mistake,” Rubio said. "I have nothing against journalists, but you are not supposed to be involved in something like this," he added, addressing the journalists and referring to the inclusion of a journalist in the confidential discussion.
