European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will soon visit US President Donald Trump, but not before there is a "concrete trade package that can be negotiated between Europe and the United States", "Politico" reported.
At a press conference in Brussels, Von der Leyen said she had a good phone conversation with Trump, but it was important to her that if she went to the White House, there was a package that could be discussed. "So it has to be concrete and I want to have a solution that we can both agree on", she said.
We recall that although Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on the initially imposed 20% tariffs on imports from the EU, which also paused its retaliatory tariffs, the two countries remain in a contentious trade relationship.
On May 8, the EC proposed countermeasures worth up to 95 billion euros on imports from the US. They will come into force if negotiations with Washington fail to remove the tariffs imposed by the US president.
