The commander of the British Royal Navy was removed from his post, the BBC reports. He is being investigated for allegations of misconduct.
The British Ministry of Defense did not give further details regarding the investigation against Admiral Ben Key. Earlier, the "Sun" newspaper came out with allegations that Key was suspected of an affair with a subordinate.
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Defense announced that the First Sea Lord had resigned for personal reasons. Admiral Ben Key was due to step down this summer after taking over as commander of the Royal Navy in 2021.
Senior officers can be removed from command and duties if there is reasonable suspicion that they are having a sexual relationship with someone more junior in their chain of command. Such relationships are frowned upon and are seen as a potential abuse of power and are against the military service's code of conduct.
Until a new commander is chosen, Key's replacement, Vice Admiral Sir Martin Connell, will take full command of the Royal Navy.
