Russian troops have made new tactical advances in the Toretsk area and along the Pokrovsk direction, the Ukrainian military project DeepState, which monitors changes on the front line in eastern Ukraine in real time, reported, BTA reports.
According to the analysis published on Monday, Russian units have advanced into the city of Toretsk itself, as well as in the areas around the villages of Romanovka and Novoolenivka.
The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed in its daily report that 133 combat clashes have been registered along the line of contact since the beginning of the day. In the Pokrovsk direction - one of the hottest zones in Donetsk region - Ukrainian forces repelled 50 enemy assaults.
According to the General Staff, Russian forces launched six assaults in the Toretsk direction. By the end of the day, two of them were still in progress, with no clear outcome.
Toretsk is a strategically important city located northwest of Gorlovka. Control of it would give Russian forces the opportunity to advance on Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, key Ukrainian defense centers in the region.
