Romanian presidential candidate from the nationalist Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR) Gheorghe Simion held a meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda. This was announced by the AUR press service in an official statement, also distributed to the BTA editorial office.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, where the two leaders discussed key regional and bilateral issues.

“The restoration of democracy in a difficult political context for Romania, the strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries, the “Three Seas“ initiative, as well as Romania's strategic and economic potential in the region were among the main topics of conversation,“ the statement said. The AUR emphasizes that the visit aims to demonstrate the formation's commitment to building solid international relations and establishing Romania as an active partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Polish presidential administration also confirmed the meeting through a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter), specifying that the main topic was the development of bilateral relations between Poland and Romania.

Simion arrived in Warsaw on May 13 (Tuesday) and that same evening took part in an election rally of the candidate for president of Poland Karol Nawrocki.

In an interview with the Romanian newspaper “Adeverul“, Simion announced that his next stop is Rome, where he will participate in several events together with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini. He also plans meetings with the Romanian diaspora in Italy, after which he will also participate in several initiatives in Brussels.
