During the meeting in Istanbul on May 16, the delegations of Ukraine and Russia discussed a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. RBC-Ukraine reports, referring to a statement by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov during a video conference.
"(A meeting between Zelensky and Putin) was also discussed, we are working on it," Umerov said.
He also added that they will soon announce possible new negotiations.
Today, May 16, the Ukrainian and Russian delegations held talks in Istanbul. This was the first contact between the countries in three years.
The meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin was originally scheduled to take place in Istanbul on May 15. However, Putin did not attend.
Earlier, Zelensky stressed that during the talks, Ukraine aims to achieve a ceasefire with Russia for at least 30 days. This is necessary in order to continue discussing all other issues related to peace.
According to media reports, the meeting between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations lasted a little over an hour. They did not make any significant progress in achieving peace.
