The Council of the European Union has approved a new package of sanctions against Russia, announced the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas. According to her, the measures are aimed at hybrid threats and human rights violations, BTA reports.
The date for the entry into force of the sanctions will be determined later, and it will depend on the development of events in the coming days, a European Commission spokesman said during a press conference. He also announced that a new set of sanctions against Russia is being prepared over the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The spokesman expressed satisfaction with the fact that last night US President Donald Trump informed some European leaders and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen about the content of his telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, Putin's position on the conflict remains unchanged, which is clearly evident from his refusal to participate in direct negotiations in Turkey.
“This shows a lack of readiness for peace on the part of the Russian president,“ the spokesman said.
