California Governor Gavin Newsom has threatened to stop paying state taxes amid reports that US President Donald Trump is preparing a massive cut in state funding, Politico reports.
"We pay $80 billion more in taxes than we get back. Maybe it's time to stop that," the Democratic governor said, citing a recent analysis by the Rockefeller Institute.
CNN reported that Trump is considering completely ending state grant funding for California universities.
According to the source, the American leader has used state funding as a pressure measure to impose his policies on California before. In May, Trump threatened to cut off the state's funding if a transgender athlete competed in a girls' track and field competition.
