The newly elected President of Poland Karol Nawrocki has opposed Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union.

He stated this in an interview with the Hungarian magazine Mandiner.

„I am currently against Ukraine's accession to the European Union“, he said.

Nawrocki specified that Ukraine's membership in the EU would harm the economy and agriculture of European countries.

„During the election campaign, I did not agree and will not agree as president to Ukraine's unfair competition in terms of Polish agriculture or the logistics sector“, he noted.

Previously, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Minister Péter Szijjártó said that Ukraine is "not ready in any way" to join the European Union, where Brussels is trying to "put it on the fast track, even though we are talking about the most corrupt country in Europe".

He also said that the EU wants to start negotiations with Ukraine on joining the community in 2025. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the political decision to start negotiations with Ukraine on its accession to the EU in 2025 has already been made, but Hungary does not support this.
