About 60 people were arrested at a protest against immigration near the Capitol in Washington, CNN reported, citing local police.
“A group of about 60 people were arrested near the Capitol on Friday night after breaking through a police barrier from bike racks,“ the television channel reported.
It is noted that about 75 people protested near the Supreme Court building, and police fenced the perimeter with bike racks to prevent protesters from reaching the Capitol.
The rally began in front of the Supreme Court and continued towards the Capitol. The group, who were planning to hold a sit-in on the Capitol steps, broke through the security barrier and rushed to the steps, prompting Capitol Police to intervene.
The protest was part of nationwide demonstrations against immigration enforcement operations.
Police said all those arrested would be charged with unlawful assembly and breaking a police cordon.
A law enforcement source told CNN that the demonstrators were part of a group of veterans protesting against fascism.
