The European Commission today presented a package of measures aimed at accelerating investment in military production and strengthening the defense capabilities of the European Union. The initiatives aim to better prepare the EU to deal with modern security challenges, BTA reports.
The new proposals include the development of military infrastructure, reducing the administrative burden and improving access to European funding. According to the official announcement of the Commission, accelerated issuance of permits for defense projects is planned - within 60 days - as well as measures to ensure greater predictability for manufacturers in the sector.
Among the highlights is a proposal to allow Ukrainian organizations to participate in projects under the European Defense Fund. In addition, joint procurement between member states for the acquisition of military equipment will be facilitated.
All proposals are subject to approval by the Council of the EU and the European Parliament before they enter into force.
