British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will hold a meeting of the coalition of the willing in the coming weeks, Starmer's office said, reported "PA Media", quoted by BTA.
On the sidelines of the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada, Starmer said he strongly believes that restrictions on the price of Russian crude oil should be tightened so as to reduce Russia's energy revenues.
Starmer also rejected claims that the plan, led by Britain and France, to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine from countries from the so-called coalition of the willing is failed.
Starmer also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is also in Canada as a guest of the G7. During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to work on the next phase of military aid to Ukraine. The bilateral meeting followed a meeting between Ukraine's partners focused on efforts to secure a just and lasting peace for the country.
Starmer and Zelensky also discussed increasing economic pressure on Vladimir Putin, with the prime minister informing the Ukrainian leader of new sanctions announced by the United Kingdom against Russia.
Zelensky said that he and Starmer agreed that "in order to force Russia to end this war, coordinated sanctions are needed from all G7 countries against its energy and banking sectors, its shadow navy and its military-industrial complex".
The United Kingdom announced sanctions against 20 Russian oil tankers, as well as measures to tighten the net around the companies that manage the vessels.
Australia has imposed sanctions on 60 ships from the Russian shadow navy for the first time, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA, citing a statement from the Australian government.
Australia has already imposed several other packages of sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine.
Sanctions against the Russian shadow fleet have also been introduced by the EU, Britain and Canada.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met with Sergei Shoigu, secretary of the Russian Security Council. The meeting took place in the North Korean capital Pyongyang, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Kim and Shoigu discussed plans for cooperation on what Russia calls its "special military operation" in Russia's Kursk region, bordering Ukraine, according to information from North Korean state television KCNA.
Plans to commemorate the "heroic exploits" of North Korean soldiers in operations in the Kursk region, which was invaded by Ukrainian forces last year, the KCTA reported.
North Korea will send thousands of military construction workers and sappers to the region to help rebuild it after the Ukrainian invasion. The North Korean military helped Moscow push back Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region earlier this year, Shoigu said.
The US State Department confirmed the death of an American during a Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev, BTA reported.
The US condemned the attack, which took place the previous night and claimed the lives of more than 10 people in the Ukrainian capital, including an American, said US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce. She did not provide any other details about the American.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this morning that the deceased American was 62 years old.
