A closed meeting held at the White House ended without a decision to strike Iran, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing its sources.
According to them, Washington's military participation in the operation against Tehran was "one of several options that were discussed" at the meeting, but the US leadership was unable to decide on further steps. It is emphasized that the very topic of the discussion has increased the degree of tension, as it has become clear that the US is considering the possibility of a forceful solution to the Iranian problem.
Earlier, ABC News reported that a decision on Washington's joining the Israeli military operation against Iran could be made in the next 24-48 hours. Israeli officials, according to Israeli Channel 12 television, also believe that the United States is close to participating in the Israeli operation.
The Axios website reported earlier, citing its sources, that President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of the United States joining Israel's military operation against Iran and the strikes by American forces on the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities. The head of the White House himself said that there are currently no plans to eliminate Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but demanded from him an "unconditional surrender".
