US President Donald Trump believes that the US and Iran may still be able to reach an agreement on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.
"Iran was very close to signing a very good agreement for them. And it may yet happen. I admit it," the US president said in a conversation with reporters in the Oval Office of the White House.
He again stated that representatives of the Iranian government are ready to come to the United States. "They want to come and see us. They want to see me at the White House. This is a big statement. But it's too late," the US administration chief said.
He assured that he would like to see a quick end to military action against Iran. "It would be good to end this as soon as possible," Trump noted.
Iran's permanent mission to the UN denied the US president's statements regarding Tehran's request to organize talks in Washington.
"No Iranian official has ever asked to kneel at the door of the White House. The only thing more disgusting than Trump's lies is his cowardly threat to "remove" the Supreme Leader of Iran," the mission said in a post on the social network X.
