The second unit of the Romanian nuclear power plant "Cherna Voda" was shut down in a controlled manner last night to carry out additional studies and possibly repair work on some systems, the Agerpres agency reported, referring to today's announcement by the plant's operator, "Nuclearelectrica", BTA reported.
"The studies and repair work are being carried out in accordance with procedures, without affecting nuclear safety, personnel and the population," representatives of "Nuclearelectrica" said.
The "Cherna Voda" nuclear power plant has two CANDU reactors, which are among the most efficient in the world, Agerpres reports.
„Nuclearelectrica“ produces electricity, heat and nuclear fuel. The company operates under the direction of the Ministry of Energy, with the Romanian state owning 82.49 percent of the shares and other shareholders - 17.50 percent, after it was listed on the stock exchange in 2013.
A fire broke out yesterday in a room with technical equipment of the first reactor of the plant. "Nuclearelectrica" assured that it was an administrative part of the site, that the situation was under control and that there was no risk to the operation of the reactors.
