US President Donald Trump signed the tax and spending bill, landmark for his administration, BTA reported.
The approval of the legislation was the culmination of a ceremony organized at the White House on the occasion of the US national holiday, the Fourth of July, or Independence Day. It also included a flyover of B-2 bombers like those used in the strikes on Iran, the agencies reported.
"We are entering a golden era for America", Trump announced during a 20-minute speech that preceded the signing of the so-called big and beautiful bill, as he himself called it. "This is the largest bill of its kind in history. There has never been one like this before." During the ceremony, he was surrounded by Republican congressmen who had the main merit in its acceptance into Congress. Trump himself insisted that this be done before the national holiday of the Fourth of July, when the United States celebrated 249 years of independence from the British crown.
The "one and only, big and beautiful bill", developed at the initiative of the Trump administration, provides for significant cuts in taxes and government spending in a number of areas. But on the other hand, it includes an increase in defense funds, in particular for the construction of the "Golden Dome" missile defense system. The legislation also includes measures to tighten border controls, with increased spending to that end.
The bill was finally passed on Thursday, just in time, a success that the 79-year-old president called his "biggest" victory since taking office on January 20.
But he also recalled a series of other triumphs of his in recent weeks, including the ceasefire between Israel and Iran after the US bombing of the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities, the agreement on NATO spending and the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of the executive branch over the judiciary.
Two B-2 bombers, like those that took part in the June 22 strikes on Iran, flew over the White House to mark the holiday, accompanied by fighter jets. The ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House was also attended by some of the pilots who flew the planes during the operation against the Islamic Republic. The solemn celebration of the holiday was scheduled to end with a festive fireworks display.
The adoption of the law has strengthened Donald Trump's control over the Republican Party and, for now, over American politics in general, despite the doubts publicly expressed by his party members about the benefits of the regulatory act and the sharp criticism from his former ally, billionaire Elon Musk, the agencies note.
After the bill narrowly passed the Senate on Tuesday, it was also passed by the House of Representatives by 218 to 214 votes, which happened after using numerous procedural tricks and negotiations.
