Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has called on European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to resign after corruption allegations were filed against her. The vote of no confidence in the head of the EC is scheduled for July 10 in Strasbourg, reports Focus.
“It's time to leave“, Orbán wrote on the social network X, accompanying his post with a portrait of von der Leyen.
Orbán has long been one of the harshest critics of the current leadership of the European Union, especially on topics such as migration policy, the conflict in Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, as well as the EU's economic relations with China and the United States.
The reason for the vote of no confidence in von der Leyen in the European Parliament is mainly the accusations surrounding the EU's purchase of COVID-19 vaccines. According to critics, some of them were ordered without having passed the necessary clinical trials during the pandemic.
