A large forest fire that broke out late last night in the forested areas of the Greek island of Thassos continues to rage this morning, reports the newspaper "Kathimerini", BTA reports.
The flames are spreading in uneven and difficult-to-reach terrain, which significantly complicates the actions to control them.
According to information from the state television ERT, quoted by "Kathimerini", the fire is active on two fronts. One is located in the Glykadi region in the northern part of the island, and the other is moving southeast towards the popular seaside resort of Pachis and the nearby village of Rachoni. According to the latest data, the situation on the second front is improving.
The authorities continue their active actions to control the fire and protect the threatened communities and infrastructure. Significant firefighting forces have been mobilized on site, including reinforcements from the mainland city of Kavala. Dozens of volunteers are also joining the fight against the flames, assisted by municipal water trucks and heavy equipment.
