South Korean court sends former president Yun Seok-yeol to detention - 1

The Seoul Central District Court has approved the arrest warrant for former South Korean president Yun Seok-yeol, Reuters reported, News.bg reports.

He has been charged with rebellion over his martial law declaration in early December, which lasted several hours.

A court hearing was held today in the case, which Yun did not attend. His lawyer explained his absence with health problems.

The Constitutional Court had already removed Yun from office in April, confirming the impeachment voted by parliament. The coup has led to serious political turmoil in the country.

The investigation against Yun was initiated by a special prosecutor's team after the inauguration of new President Lee Jae-myun in June. In addition to the main charge, prosecutors are also examining additional allegations, including that Yun intentionally escalated tensions with North Korea, harming national interests.

Deputy Special Prosecutor Park Ji-yong announced that Yun Seok-yeol will be questioned on Friday, July 11, and the investigation will be expedited.
