US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will supply weapons to Ukraine through NATO. He said this in an interview with NBC News, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
Trump added that he would make a serious statement related to Russia on Monday, but did not give further details.
In recent days, Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the lack of progress in finding a solution to end the war in Ukraine.
"I think I will make a serious statement regarding Russia on Monday", Trump said, without specifying its content.
The president also indicated that there is a new agreement between the US, NATO and Ukraine regarding the supply of weapons. According to him, NATO will fully cover the costs of the weapons provided by Washington:
"We send weapons to NATO, NATO pays for them 100%. The weapons that go to NATO will be provided to Ukraine, and NATO will reimburse us the full cost."
This will be Trump's first direct military support for Kiev since the beginning of his second term. Until now, his administration had only approved weapons supplies agreed upon during the time of his predecessor, Joe Biden.
