Syria is expected to hold its first parliamentary elections under the new government in September, the head of the electoral commission told the Syrian news agency SANA today, BTA reported.
Voting for the 210-member National Assembly is planned to take place between September 15 and 20, said Mohamed Taha, who is overseeing the election process.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has received a draft electoral law that amends a previous legislative act and increases the number of seats in the future parliament from 150 to 210. One-third of the deputies will be appointed by the president.
