A tsunami has reached the coast of the state of California, the US National Weather Service reported. According to information published by the office of the service in Los Angeles, observation stations in the area of Arena Cove beach recorded the movement of the wave along the coast, reports Focus.
Before that, the first waves had already been felt in the states of Alaska and Hawaii. They are the result of a powerful earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale that struck the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula earlier today.
The Japan Meteorological Agency also reported a tsunami: a wave 1.3 meters high was detected in the port of Kuji, located in northeastern Iwate Prefecture.
A warning has been issued for the entire west coast of the United States for the danger of new waves. Russian authorities have warned that waves in Kamchatka could reach heights of up to 15 meters. The situation remains dynamic and under close monitoring by meteorological and rescue services.
