An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Kamchatka region, reports the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, quoted by TASS, reports Focus.
According to the report, the tremor was felt with an intensity of 3 on the seismic activity scale in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
According to the Russian Academy of Sciences, the aftershock occurred at 1:35 p.m. Moscow time (10:35 p.m. local time) about 213 km from the regional capital, with an epicenter in the Pacific Ocean and a depth of nearly 39 km.
This is one of the strongest aftershocks recorded after the powerful primary tremor on July 30, which had a magnitude of 8.8 on the Richter scale, the strongest earthquake in the region since 1952. Within just 20 minutes of the new tremor, four more aftershocks with magnitudes between 4.8 and 5.7 were recorded.
