The head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini expressed serious concern today that children suffering from malnutrition in the Gaza Strip are at risk of death if emergency measures are not immediately introduced during the Israeli military operation in Gaza City, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
According to him, the data shows a six-fold increase in the number of malnourished children in the city since March.
„We have a population that is extremely exhausted and will face a new large-scale military operation. "Many of them simply will not have the strength to survive another displacement," Lazzarini said during a meeting at the Geneva Press Club.
He stressed that without a crisis plan, the consequences would be fatal: "If there are no emergency measures, then these children will certainly be condemned to starvation," Lazzarini said, speaking in French.
