US President Donald Trump would not object to the arrest of former CIA and FBI directors John Brennan and James Comey in connection with their alleged involvement in the Democrats' dissemination of deliberately false information about Russian interference in the 2016 US election.
The head of the Washington administration said this in an interview with The Daily Caller, published on August 30.
“It wouldn't bother me at all“, Trump replied when asked how he would feel if, after the investigation currently being conducted by the American authorities, Brennan and Comey “were shown on television in handcuffs and under arrest“. “Depending on what comes out, if they are guilty, they are guilty“, the US president stressed. “They are bad people. And they are very, very sick people.“
The head of the White House admitted that he could not say for sure whether anyone would be arrested in connection with the aforementioned investigation, which is being conducted by the US Department of Justice. “They do not know if they will be arrested. There should be“, he noted. Speaking about former first lady and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was his rival in the 2016 presidential election, Trump stressed: “I would not want the wife of a president to go to prison, but she is completely guilty.“ The American leader has already expressed confidence that Clinton was involved in fabricating the aforementioned data.
On July 18, the US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard published a report stating that the administration of the 44th US President, Democrat Barack Obama, essentially fabricated intelligence showing that Russia interfered in the election process after Republican Trump won the 2016 presidential election. This was done to try to remove Trump from power, Gabbard noted. According to her, several months before the election, US intelligence was unanimous that Russia had neither the intention nor the ability to interfere in the US elections. However, in December 2016 (after Trump's victory), the Obama administration ordered a new report to be prepared that contradicted previous assessments. Gabbard explained that the key intelligence conclusion that Russia did not influence the election results has been removed and classified.
Gabbard previously said that she had handed over documents on this topic to the US Department of Justice. As she noted, the investigation launched by the department into the case of alleged Russian interference in the election will be the first step towards holding accountable those involved in the fabrication of data. Trump has repeatedly denied suspicions of improper contacts with Russian officials. Moscow has also called allegations of attempts to influence the course of the US election baseless.
