Germany does not expect Russian attacks to be carried out on NATO territory under the cover of the Zapad military exercises, which Russia will begin in two weeks, German Defense Inspector General Carsten Breuer said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
"We have no indications of preparations for attacks to be carried out under the cover of the exercises. "However, we will be on the alert, not only the German forces, but also NATO," Breuer told reporters in Berlin.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry warned Minsk to refrain from any provocations during the Russian-Belarusian military exercises "West" and called on European partners to be vigilant.
"The buildup of Russian troops on the borders of Ukraine in the period 2021 - 2022 took place under the guise of the exercises "West 2021" between Russia and Belarus. "We warn Minsk to refrain from reckless provocations and advise it to exercise prudence and not to approach our borders and not to provoke the Defense Forces of Ukraine," the Ministry said in a publication in "Ex".
The diplomatic department added that cooperation between Russia and Belarus is a threat to Europe.
