The European Union will provide Moldova with additional financial support of 18.9 million euros through the Reform and Growth Facility, MOLDPRES news agency reported. The decision comes after the European Commission acknowledged that the country has implemented key reforms, including in the energy sector, BTA reports.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Moldova is continuing steadily on its European path and stressed the importance of investments:
„A strong Moldova means a stronger Europe. The EU remains firmly committed to supporting the country at every stage of its path to accession,“ she said.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Cos added that the first instalment under the Facility is “a clear signal“ of Moldova's determination to carry out the necessary reforms.
According to the EC, the additional funds come on top of the €270 million already disbursed in 2025 and are part of a total package of up to €1.9 billion to be disbursed over the period 2025-2027. This is the largest European financial support provided to the country.
In addition to the energy sector, progress has also been reported in the reforms of the judiciary, the fight against corruption and organised crime. Brussels has called on both European and Moldovan companies to build a portfolio of transformative investments that can be supported by European and international institutions such as the EIB and EBRD.
Between 2021 and 2025, Moldova has already received over €1.2 billion in grants for energy security, social support and judicial reforms. Through these programs, the EU aims to gradually integrate the country into the European single market and accelerate preparations for membership.
