The damage in the municipality of Nessebar is very extensive. The infrastructure in the holiday village "Elenite" and in St. Vlas was the most severely damaged. This was stated to "Flagman" by the mayor of Nessebar, Nikolay Dimitrov, who, together with the entire crisis headquarters, is currently monitoring the rescue operations.
“The sports complex in Sveti Vlas has been completely swept away - it is simply gone. There are many flooded houses, the water reached the second floor. Some buildings have been partially swept away by the element. Many cars have been swept into the sea”, announced Nikolay Dimitrov, who also confirmed that the body of a man who drowned in the rising water was found on the ground floor of a house.
The mayor explained that with the introduction of the state of emergency, today has been declared a non-school day. Transport has been stopped and dangerous roads have been closed to limit the possibility of accidents. Currently, in the Nessebar Municipality building, the crisis headquarters is awaiting the arrival of government representatives who are traveling to the sea because of the disaster.
“This is nature and we are powerless before it. This morning we cleaned the isthmus to the Old Town - all the sewers and manholes, because we were warned about the coming storm. Even that did not help and it was flooded with water. Sveti Vlas is a landslide area, all this water is coming from the mountain and there is no way to stop it. We are talking about a huge volume”, the mayor also said.
Unfortunately, the weather forecast is not optimistic. A second wave of rainfall is expected, but the hopes are that this time it will be weaker.
Around 2 p.m. it became clear that Nikolay Dimitrov had called all Social Assistance and Bulgarian Red Cross structures to action, ordering food and mineral water to be brought to the St. Vlas city hall. All those rescued from the villas are being taken there. The Nessebar Municipality also provided food and water to other victims who are in a hotel on the coast - 13 people.
The cyclone that hit Nessebar, Sveti Vlas and Elenite at around 1:50 p.m. is still ongoing. Many cars got stuck on the road in the direction of St. Vlas, thinking that the disaster was subsiding.
Now the queue is kilometers long and starts almost from the center of Sunny Beach - for everyone who was waiting in different places a little while ago. There is still no information about the man who called 112 to report that he was swept away by a tidal wave in his car on a street in Sveti Vlas. It is very likely that he was swept out to sea. However, no more than 2 cars are visible on the surface, and divers are unlikely to enter the sea due to the huge waves.
