I can't say whether there is illegal construction in the holiday village "Elenite", the mayor of the Nessebar municipality Nikolay Dimitrov told journalists. “We gathered to help people and work“, he said, quoted by BTA.
When asked whether the ravines were cleaned before the disaster, he replied: “Do we need to know when there will be a disaster in order to clean them? The services did what they had to do".
According to him, the priority at the moment is the activities of the crisis headquarters and providing assistance to the victims.
"There will still be inspections and if something is found to be incorrect, the reasons will be sought. Now we have to do the job for which we gathered - the crisis headquarters, and then conduct studies", added Dimitrov.
In response to a question about what preventive measures were taken at the local level before the worsening weather situation, the mayor explained: "The preventive measures we are taking are to clean all storm sewers and manholes - and they were cleaned. It's just the large amount of rain - that's nature. We are taking what we need to do - we are cleaning, people are working around the clock. Before the rainfall, everything was cleaned. When necessary, we also clean the ravines – they also have drainage".
