Illegal construction and the people who gave permission to build in ravines and river valleys are the culprits of what happened on the Southern Black Sea coast and "Elenite". This was said by the leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov for the weekly overview program "Metronome" on Radio "Focus".
"This, unfortunately, is not happening for the first time. I gave an example of the tragedy in "Asparuhovo" in Varna in 2014, when 14 people died. 12 of them were in an illegal house built in the very center of the ravine and it was swept away. We have observed the same cases a few years ago. Remember that there were similar cases in Tsarevo, now we see the same thing. This is a built-up ravine. We should not talk about tragedy here, but about corruption, because these people are not victims of the rains and natural phenomena, which have always been there, but of the corrupt people who allowed the construction to take place", commented Kostadinov.
"You don't need to do a lot of computer simulations to understand that where there is a ravine - sooner or later, with a heavy rain - then this water has nowhere to go. That's why it has made its way over the years, to get out of the mountains and go to the sea in the easiest way," the leader of "Vazrazhdane" was categorical.
According to him, such tragedies will continue to happen, because there are many built-up ravines along the Black Sea coast and there are attempts to continue building. "A construction entrepreneur wants to build in a ravine on the road between the Varna neighborhoods "Asparuhovo" and "Galata", so as long as there are such people and corrupt officials at the state and municipal levels to allow such constructions - such tragedies will be repeated," he said.
"Here we are talking about a crime. "The fact that someone decided to build on a plot of land and then sell it to others who are not very aware (editor's note: the buyers) - that's one thing, but the people who signed and allowed construction there, because there are laws in Bulgaria, is another matter, that they are not respected - they did it with the clear awareness that they were committing a crime, violating the laws of the country," added Kostadinov.
