Following the serious accident at a rally race on Sunday, the Varna District Prosecutor's Office is investigating the tragedy in which one man died and a 27-year-old woman is in critical condition.

In the first minute after the start, the car of competitor Neyko Neykov went off the road on a bend and swept the guardrail and the people behind it.

Spectaculars are not allowed to watch the race from there, but they did so despite the ban, the organizers explained.

„There was a mistake by the pilot, as he approached the bend incorrectly. But he is in a race and it happens. The audience entered a prohibited area, which was marked. The tapes and inscriptions are visible. "They probably came from the forest," said Slavi Slavov, sports director of the competition.

The field test for alcohol was negative, but showed the presence of amphetamine in the competitor's blood. He is in custody for up to 24 hours, while the results of the blood sample are awaited, which will confirm or refute the readings from the field tests.

“The pilot voluntarily went to take a test for alcohol and drugs. He was surprised that his test came out positive. I advised him to take a blood sample”, said Slavov.

He explained that organizing such an event takes a lot of time. “Marshals are trained, seminars and briefings are held, the risk of the route is assessed — where to position people. "Work is starting with the police, medical teams, etc., to make sure everything is safe," Slavov said.

A final check was made before the competition.
