„Pazardzhik is not a typical case, but a special case. A party that was not there in the last elections is now the first. It has inherited another. What is important is what will happen in Budapest, a redistribution of world powers is underway“. This was said in the program „This morning“ on bTV by Prof. Mihail Konstantinov, mathematician and expert in electoral systems
„Pazardzhik was an emblematic example of what can happen at the national level if we stay with this electoral code and electoral legislation. Even the Constitutional Court made certain recommendations. Nothing has changed since then“, commented Petar Slavov, a doctor of constitutional law and former MP.
“My prediction last year was that under this electoral code there would be exactly the same problems as those in Pazardzhik and we should not be surprised how parties that had no representation before are now the first“, he also said.
“Our electoral system is extremely sensitive to changes in votes. In the most striking case, one vote can change 240 mandates, in another case it can change 10 mandates“, pointed out Prof. Konstantinov.
“The head of the Ministry of Interior in Pazardzhik was fired, this shows that there was a problem“, commented Slavov.
According to him, the deputies must amend the electoral code so that there are no such practices.
“Large quantities of votes are bought wholesale through dealers and through the neighborhood tycoons. There, no one looks at who voted and how, they look at the results and pay for the result“, pointed out Prof. Konstantinov.
