If you are one of those people who collect coins from their change, you should know that after January 1st we will be able to pay in levs for another month, but the law gives merchants the right, at their discretion, to refuse to accept more than 50 coins at a single payment.

The online platform "We, the Consumers" gives several rational ideas.

You can ask the store or pharmacy if they would consolidate some of your coins — they often need change for change.

Another option is to find out if any of the stores near you still have those machines that turn coins into vouchers left.

Before transforming them into such a coupon, check the terms and conditions for shopping with it and decide if they suit you. Usually, with the receipts issued against the coins, purchases can only be made in the respective store and for a certain period.

At the BNB, you can exchange your coins for banknotes. If you have coins in denominations of 1 and 2 stotinki or 5, 10, 20 and 50 stotinki, 1 lev and 2 lev with a total value of up to 200 leva and divide them into denominations in advance, you will not be charged any fees. Otherwise, there are different rates.

For example, even if they are divided, if the coins from 5 stotinki to 2 leva are worth over 200 leva, you will owe 1.3% on the difference over 200 leva, but not less than one leva.

In case you hand over undivided coins by denomination, regardless of the amount, the fee is 1.4% on the entire amount, but not less than 2.00 leva.

And it is best to start shopping with them now and at least at this stage not to collect more coins, advises "We, the Consumers".
