Georgi Kiryakov: This is not a protest over the budget, but over what has been happening in recent years

The political scientist specified that the budget has not been withdrawn, but temporarily frozen, which opens up the possibility for new talks with employers and unions. According to him, however, the root of the problem is deeper. "A reform is needed in institutions such as the Ministry of Interior. Increases of over 50% are unacceptable when other sectors also need it," he shared

Political scientist Georgi Kiryakov commented on the current political situation after the large-scale protest and the frozen budget procedure in the program “Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov“.

In his words, this is not a protest of individual parties, but of a wide spectrum of dissatisfied citizens. “This is a protest of all those angry against what is happening in the government, the coalition, even in the opposition. "It's not a protest about the budget, but about what's been happening in recent years," he pointed out.

According to Kiryakov, there were visible sympathizers of both right-wing formations and "Vazrazhdane" and supporters of the president on the square. However, he said that he did not see the potential for a sustainable anti-government front. "Everyone will try to find themselves in this protest, but it does not belong to the parties. This is not the structure of a future ruling majority," the political scientist said.

He described the situation as different, but with accumulated tension. "There was no such charge in previous protests. Now the ruling party has reached a certain limit. People are more willing to express their anger”, Kiryakov reported.

The political scientist specified that the budget has not been withdrawn, but temporarily frozen, which opens up the possibility for new talks with employers and unions. According to him, however, the root of the problem is deeper. “Reform is needed in institutions such as the Ministry of Interior. Increases of over 50% are unacceptable when other sectors also need it”, he shared.

He also commented on Boyko Borisov's words “In a little while the prime minister will say what I have decided”. “This is part of his narrative that he holds the levers of power. And it seems that his participation in the government remains key”, Kiryakov added.

Finally, the political scientist said that recent weeks show a worrying trend. “Politicians are sparing the public the truth, but they have lost a little more trust,” he said.
