Protests against Borisov and Peevski in the capital and major cities of the country OVERVIEW

Citizens demanded fair elections

Many citizens filled the so-called triangle of power in the center of Sofia to protest against the ruling party. Protests were also held in several cities in the country, BTA correspondents reported.

The demonstration in Sofia, which was announced in the Sofia Municipality, was organized by "Continuing the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (PP-DB) and went under the slogan "Don't Feed the Pig with Your Money Vol. 3". This was another protest organized by PP-DB, with the first two being against the proposed budget for next year, and the last one demanding the resignation of the government. Protesters held posters with the inscriptions: "Out of the Big D from Bulgaria" and a photo of Delyan Peevski, "This is a farce", "Ours is not a bluff", "For fair and free elections". During the protest, a call was made to people to become volunteers in the possible early elections next year to guarantee the fairness of the vote.

We have a long and difficult road ahead of us to take our country back and remove the mafia from it, this time it starts with fair elections, said the chairman of "Continuing the Change" (PP) Assen Vassilev from the podium in front of the gathered protesters in Sofia.

They are most afraid of fair and free elections, Bozhidar Bozhanov, co-chairman of “Democratic Bulgaria“, told the protest.

There was a police presence around the entire building of the National Assembly, as well as in front of the Council of Ministers.

Another protest - in front of the Courthouse for Independent Justice, organized by the "Justice for Everyone" initiative, merged with the protest against the government.

The protest in Sofia ended with the performance of the anthem shortly after 8:00 p.m. After that, some of the protesters withdrew to Orlov Most and "Tsarigradsko Shose" and the movement of cars and public transport was briefly stopped.

There were also protests in several cities in the country.

With a protest march through the center, citizens of Varna demanded the resignation of Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and the introduction of fully machine voting. The main organizer of the protest was “Yes, Bulgaria“. The participants in the march chanted “Mafia out“, “Mutri, out“ and expressed their dissatisfaction with the behavior of Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski.

In Veliko Tarnovo, people of different generations gathered for another protest against the vicious practices of the authorities. The protest took place in front of the Veliko Tarnovo Municipality building, it was announced both in the municipality, the kata and the Regional Police Directorate. This protest is a continuation of our message, that it will not happen this way, said Vladislav Ivanov, a representative of the organizers.

The protest in Dobrich ended peacefully, it lasted about an hour. Citizens gathered at the "Democracy" square in front of the "Yordan Yovkov" Drama Theater. The demonstration was organized by the local structure of the PP-DB, as part of the protests in the country. The participants carried posters with the inscription "We will not stop until we strip them", "Protect democracy, expel the mafia".

In Pleven the protest was with a demand for fair elections, machine voting and a change in the Electoral Code. It gathered citizens in front of the Municipality building. The demonstration was announced to the municipal administration by the regional leadership of the PP-DB. The protest was held under the motto "#Don'tFeedThePigWithYourMoney". During the protest, citizens could learn how to become volunteers to protect the vote through a special mobile application.

Protesters at "Unity" Square in Plovdiv demanded the resignation of Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, the abolition of the security of the members of parliament and fair elections. The protest was under the slogan "Don't feed the pig with your money!" and was organized by representatives of the local structures of the political formations "Continuing the Change", "Yes, Bulgaria" and "Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria". The protest was attended by a group of people chanting "No to the Euro" and carrying posters with messages against the currency. The rest of the protesters identified these people as provocateurs and turned on them with shouts of "This is not Moscow" and calls to leave the protest.

A protest "to reduce the influence of Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski on the institutions" and with demands for the introduction of fully machine voting in the upcoming elections and reforms in the judiciary was also held in Ruse. The event in front of the Courthouse building was promoted mainly on social networks, but the municipal administration told BTA that a citizen had also filed a notification. The protesters also demanded the replacement of the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov. They held posters with the inscriptions "Justice is in a coma", "The state is ours, not theirs", "Let's stop the plunder of the state", "Resistance against the dictatorship", etc., directed against Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borisov.

In Stara Zagora, citizens gathered in front of the Regional Administration building. The demonstration was organized by the municipal structure of the PP-DB in the city, and the notification letter for the event was received by the local administration from Magdalena Ovcharova, a municipal councilor from the same coalition, the Municipality's press center told BTA. The protest was in support of machine voting, the removal of Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borisov's security guards, and the dismissal of the interim chief prosecutor Borislav Sarafov from the post, and was held in front of the building of the Regional Administration in Stara Zagora.

Citizens of Targovishte also gathered for a protest in the city center. Thus, they expressed their support for the protests taking place in the country against the ruling party. The demonstration was not previously announced to the Targovishte Municipality administration. The organization took place through posts on social networks. One of the posters presented the leaders of GERB, “DPS - New Beginning“ and “There is such a people“ as carolers. The demonstration passed peacefully and without tension.

Citizens also gathered in front of the Municipality building in Shumen. The protest was organized on social networks. Those present chanted "No to the euro", after which the anthem of the Republic of Bulgaria and a song about Captain Petko Voevoda and other patriotic songs were played from loudspeakers. The protesters carried posters with the inscription: "Don't feed the pig with your money" and "We want our leva".
