The machines give the most accurate result when they are not just printers, and the elections in recent years have proven this. Some politicians do not mince their words, if there really was "ala-bala", by now the person who did it would have been discovered even by journalists. This was commented by the former ombudsman and current leader of "Stand Up, Bulgaria" Maya Manolova.
The machines with scanners will also have software and code that will be validated - why then should these counting machines be more reliable, she asked. All parties that want scanning machines want to preserve the controlled and bought vote. They do not break the Indian thread, they will continue to take out pre-filled ballots in the rooms, claims Maya Manolova. The changes in the Electoral Code will be the calling card of every party - whether it has heard the protest and wants something to change, she told BTV.
According to her, putting a paper ballot into a counting machine is done in some former Soviet republics and some American states. Therefore, a machine vote with a control count of the receipts is the way, Manolova is convinced. She reminded that during such a count in the July elections two years ago, no significant discrepancies were found, wrote news.bg.
Manolova also asked how the lady from ITN, "who held a meeting for 26 seconds", spoke about a "mystical, illegal working group" that had been held and found 6 offers for such scanning machines? Why was this not announced, how could such meetings not be attended by all parliamentary parties and public organizations that were included in the debate on the election rules, the former ombudsman asked.
She predicts a major protest if the deputies give up on machine voting, as well as a major resistance from the current majority to the changes in the Electoral Code that would ensure fair elections. The protest that brought down the government is the healthiest public process in the last 20 years and the people will not allow anything to remain unchanged, restarting the key systems in the state - the protest wants Bulgaria to become a normal, democratic and legal state, she said. Young people will not give up, they have enough time ahead of them to come out every time the next one in power lies to them. Thus, the protest has become the fifth, civilian power, an unavoidable factor, Manolova believes.
