A 37-year-old driver has been detained after a race with the police and spikes for forced stopping on the road, bTV reported. The man has numerous violations, some of which are for driving without a license. Fortunately, no accident occurred.

The operation was planned in advance and specifically targeted at the driver, explained to our team Commissioner Dimitar Kikyev from the ODMVR – Sliven. The man came into the police's focus after information that he was driving a car with license plates intended for another vehicle.

„This is the result of our targeted work against systematic violators. Our goal was maximum safety – both for road users and police officers“, said Commissioner Kikyov.

The race began after a stop signal was given, which the driver did not obey. According to the data, the distance from Stara Zagora to Nova Zagora, about 35 kilometers, was covered in just 13 minutes. This means a speed significantly above the permissible limit.

Another police team had to put spikes on the road. The driver drove through them, and a little later the car's tires fell apart and the car became uncontrollable. This forced the driver to slow down and be detained.

Footage from the action was captured by both the video recorders in the patrol cars and the officers' body cameras. The detainee turned out to be well known to law enforcement. He has numerous violations, including driving without a license. His license was revoked years ago.

However, within the last 24 hours alone, another large-scale operation was carried out - jointly between the directorates in Sliven, Yambol and the Gendarmerie. Another systematic offender was detained during the operation, who was driving again without a license and after using narcotics.

A police dog trained to detect drugs was also used during the inspection. Drugs were found in the car. Rapid and pre-trial proceedings were initiated against the driver. According to Commissioner Kikyov, after the introduction of stricter measures, including the confiscation of cars, serious cases have decreased significantly. However, systematic violators continue to pose a risk.

“We are monitoring these individuals and whenever possible, we carry out operations against them“, he emphasized.

The police dogs in Sliven are profiled both for detecting narcotics and explosives, and for protecting public order. In addition to operational assistance, they also have a deterrent effect. The two actions within one day are a clear signal that control on the roads in the region will remain strengthened – and there will be no compromise for systematic violators.
