Lyubomir Datsov: Bulgaria is in a rather critical situation from a budget perspective

"Expenditures have jumped 27-28% compared to the same period last year. A large part of it is mainly due to capital expenditures. This cannot be sustainable. This huge difference between what you own and what you spend cannot be long-term," emphasized the member of the Fiscal Council

The official authorities have ready measures for the most vulnerable citizens and businesses in connection with the increase in fuel prices.

"It is clear that we are in a pre-election situation. There is not a single real measure that would address the problem", commented Lyubomir Datsov from the Fiscal Council and former Deputy Minister of Finance on the show "Denyat ON AIR".
The country's budget According to him, Bulgaria is in "a rather critical situation" from a budget perspective.

"Expenditures have jumped 27-28% compared to the same period last year. A large part of it is mainly due to capital expenditures. This cannot be sustainable. This huge difference between what you have and what you spend cannot be long-term", Datsov emphasized to Bulgaria ON AIR.
War in the Middle East
The former deputy finance minister predicts a decrease in economic activity and tax revenues, an increase in social transfers and an increase in pressure on the budget if the war in the Middle East continues for a long time.
"Military actions will be relatively short in time. Even if it's a month - nothing will happen, because the problem will remain, the basis of the regime will remain, "explained Datsov.

Incurring new external debt
According to him, the caretaker government has the right to incur external debt and "there is enough peace of mind".

"The fact that there is no fixed date for submitting an extension budget gives greater flexibility," Datsov noted and added that the extension law has no deadline.

"We see how much stupidity costs, the fact that nothing happens, that there are people who don't know what they are doing. Stupidity everywhere in the world is paid for and that costs much more money than any elections. In many cases, it costs our future and the future of our children," he pointed out and emphasized that 2026 is expected to be difficult.
